January 2019

I haven't posted here for ages!  And it's snowy and cold today, so a good time to at least put up some photos of my latest projects.  I had some handwoven wool scarves that turned out to be a bit itchy, so I've cut and sewed them into hats.

I've also been weaving some heavy mats with tee shirt knit fabric in a weft faced boundweave.

Happy Father's Day

Well, it's been a relaxing day celebrating with the Dads I know, so I thought I'd sit down and get something fiber related posted. I see it's been awhile since I've done this.  I've been busy putting in the garden, playing with the new kittens, and shearing goats as well as getting some weaving done.  Here are some photos of what's been keeping me busy.

Garnet the angora goat and his mohair fleece.  Now to get the fleece washed and processed.

Smokey, one of my shop helper, Cheeto's kittens.  Cheeto and kittens have been promoted to mouse patrol in the barn now.

I've been on a bit of a binge with the tote-bag making.  Here are a few.

This week I've been weaving with dusky blues and grays.  Of course I made a few rugs, but had some warp left at the end and made these handbags.

I'm still working on variations on a theme of bright, sunny colors.  This one is yellows and oranges with deep purple accents.

Cheeto is helping??

My shop helper, Cheeto, is trying to figure out how to tie knots.  This is my process for starting a new rug.  I leave the previous warp threads on the loom, wind a new warp onto the beam, then tie it onto the previous one before pulling it through the heddles and reed.  It takes anywhere from 3 - 6 hours to get the new warp on the loom.  Maybe longer with Cheeto's help!

Though the days are beginning to lengthen, it is still that time of year when I need to do something to brighten my days.  This week's efforts has been to set up the loom with some "beach colors".  Teal, aqua, jade and sage with some sunny yellow accents is the color combo I've selected.
